I don’t know about you, but Spring is, without a doubt, my favorite season. And one of the reasons is that it shows off my absolute favorite color. I call it “new green.” Not that you’ll find that on an official color wheel, but if you glance out your window right now, you’ll see it in the trees. In the brand new baby leaves popping out all over. Careful, though…it has a very short limb life, so don’t miss it.
The good news is that it just so happens to be the 2017 Color of the Year…and high time, if you ask me. Labeled “Greenery” by the Patone Color Institute®, which actually sounds more like a Christmas green to me, Pantone 15-0343 is, without a doubt, none other than “new green.”
Global color authority, Lee Eiseman, describes it as “a life-affirming green, emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality…of unity and community. A refreshing and revitalizing shade, symbolic of new beginnings. A fresh and zesty yellow-green that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore, and renew. Nature’s neutral. A constant on the periphery. An omnipresent hue around the world.”
Couldn’t have said it better myself — amateur lover of the color that I am. And once again, I’m amazed by the way the Journal practically writes itself sometimes. Here I was just sitting here minding my own business, staring out the window at my absolute favorite color in the whole world. Feeling inspired like I always do this time of year, just waiting for the words to bubble up. And lo and behold, there they were — bursting forth, like the color itself. Reassuring us all that our yearning to reconnect with nature, with each other, and with a larger purpose is as natural as the return of new green each Spring. Reminding us, once again, of God’s promise to make all things new.
