Here are just a few of the sentiments said about Matt from his family, friends, and co-workers:
”Matt was a joy to be around. Someone you could count on to have a deep conversation with, learn new words and random facts. I'll never forget the first time I met him, joining him in a conversation about conspiracy theories. It was a fast friendship. Matt was always around to help and had such a unique and beautiful way of seeing the world. I am forever grateful to have known him and look forward to seeing him again. My love and prayers go out to the Abbott family.
”Matt was a special friend to me who made my days at Unbridled brighter, calmer, and exciting. From the second we met, we had an instant connection and great friendship. We would go on walks and have interesting conversations about life and wonder. I would go back to my desk and just try to take as many mental notes as I can about his wisdom and expressions he so willingly shared with me. I truly felt very seen and cared for by him. This is a sad loss but I know I will never forget him. We love you Matt.
”Matt and I both started at Unbridled within a few weeks of each other. Our roles overlapped early in the mornings while we each worked to get GSM ready for visitors and coworkers alike. It goes without saying, the conversations we had were always thought provoking and left me thinking and thinking.. and thinking. Matt had a way of looking at the world unlike anyone else and explained it in a way that always helped my vocabulary grow. I'll forever be thankful for these mornings and even more for his friendship in the years to come.
”Matthew was truly one of a kind. He was passionate about taking care of and serving everyone at Unbridled. I will miss his hilarious words of wisdom to close our monthly team meetings, his view on life through such a creative and artistic lens, and his ability to connect with anyone from any walk of life. Our lives are better for knowing Matthew. We miss you, and love you!
”I didn’t get to know Matt well, but I enjoyed working alongside him at the Denver Dream Center at the 2022 ACM. I remember being particularly impressed with how kind and open he was with our Dream Center volunteer and asking about his life, experiences, and what led him to work with the Dream Center. He listened with a lot of intent and compassion.
”Matthew was such a uniquely kind, smart, thoughtful, and funny person. I will miss the conversations we used to have. Matthew always got me thinking and opened my perspective to so many aspects of life. I always enjoyed it when he would stop by my desk and say hello, hanging out with him at Camp Unbridled, and going to lunch to talk conspiracy theories, life, and spirituality. I am praying for him family and hope they find peace even though this is an extremely difficult loss to endure.
”Matt was a bright light at Unbridled, and will be sorely missed. Sending much love to all impacted by this devastating loss.
”Matt had an amazing spirit and huge heart. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time. May you find comfort in your memories.
”Denique, Ellie & Mia, I’m so sorry for your loss, and I hope you find peace and comfort through family, friends and community during this difficult time. We shared so many fun memories together… I’ll never forget you guys and the holidays we spent together at Nanas. Matt was always there to strike up the interesting conversations, and we all know his laugh was infectious. Sending a million hugs and all my love.
”Matthew was such a big part of our Unbridled family. He cared so much for our people and showed it in the attention he gave to our buildings. He wanted everyone to feel safe and comfortable and just his presence made that true for all of us. More importantly, Matthew's sense of humor could make any day better, and his unique perspective on life meant you'd always have a spirited conversation with him. I already missed him, now even more.
”Matt was truly one-of-a-kind. Everything about him was large. His laugh, his capacity for love, his trauma, his presence. He shared everything about himself so freely and openly it was impossible not to connect and care for him, and in return, he gave the same back fiercely. He was inquisitive, open-minded, accepting, funny, artistic, creative, intense, smart, loving, fun, and an absolutely wonderful human. I am heartbroken by his loss and my life will forever be changed by knowing him, and letting him know me. I will miss you forever Matthew! xoxo
